Luis Raúl Fernández Acosta holds a Master’s degree in Software Translation and Multimedia Products English/French to Spanish; and in Didactics of French as a Foreign Language by the University of Caen, France. He has a degree in Teaching Foreign Languages from the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma of Puebla. He is the Academic Director of the Bachelor’s Degree in Translation, Localization and Interpretation at the Universidad Intercontinental in Mexico City. In 2016, he founded and designed an online program in Specialized Translation and Professional Interpreting.
Localization: a new niche market for Latin American translators
Localization, as part of the translation industry, is a new area of opportunity for Latin American translators due to its dynamism and high demand for services (localization of websites, mobile applications, video games and software) by transnational companies and translation agencies worldwide. The topics that will be discussed in this presentation include how to enter this new market niche, what are companies looking for, what skills must you have to be a localizer, what is the localisation process of a multimedia product, what can you localize, where can you train as a professional localizer, what are the challenges for the Latin American translator.
